Winds of L'Acadie by Lois Donavon
Hi Boys and Girls - I wonder if you are as sad as I am that we are done reading this wonderful novel? I have been so impressed with your enthusiasm and interest. The world of the Acadians came alive as we lived life through the eyes of Sarah, Luke and Ann and her family. Please comment on your favourite parts and tell me what you learned, loved or wondered. Can't wait to read your thoughts!

  1. This book was so amazing! The part I loved was when you put all the soldiers going into Ann's mothers house and starting an argument and another part was when Ann's mom picked up the knife and was waving it around with fire in her eyes. One thing I now know is that French Acadians are always nice. It was so sad for the book to end we loved it so much we did not want it to end. I have some questions for you. How long did it take you to make this amazing book? I learned another thing about the French Acadians some of the soldiers did not want to take over their land. I wonder how long Ann's family lived in Nova Scotia?

  3. I liked it when Sarah kicked the chamber pot down the stairs. It was so sad when the soldiers burnt down the Acadians houses down.I know why the soldiers burnt down their homes because the soldiers didn't want the acadians to settle back but I heard that the acadians settled in mutagen.I liked it when Luke dressed up like a woman.

  6. I loved Winds of L'Acadie because it had lots of funny parts like when Sarah hit the soldier with the fire poker. I learned that Colonel Windslow didn't want harm the Acadians but he was forced to. If he didn't he would go to jail. I was impressed when Francois dressed up as a girl and so did Luke I think it was a great idea because it would keep them from going on a different boat and lose there family
. My favorite part was when Ann's mom hurt the solider with flaming eyes. It was sad when the soldiers burnt the city. I wonder if Lois Donavon will make a new book maybe about the Inuit or the Prairie people.

  7. The awesome thing about Winds of L'Acadie was when Ann's mom got the knife out of the cupboard and pointed at the soldiers and the soldier was about to hurt Ann's mother. That is my favorite part because we have been learning about the Acadians. I hope you make part two of Winds of L'Acadie because we can learn more.I thought at the end of the book that Ann and Francois would be separated.I wonder how many books you wrote?

  10. I love your book because of the time travel and all of the cool things. It is so cool when Sarah opened the box and the wind swept her up. Ann is so loving and caring. I wish you would write part 2 so Sarah can find Ann and Francois. Its so suspenseful when Sarah saved Jean Paul's life. It is so sad that they had to leave there house's. I wonder how many Acadian's stayed in L'Acadie. I learned that many people died and many boats drowned.

  11. I loved Winds of L'Acadie. It was a amazing story! I think it was the best story I have ever read and it will always be! I wish it could go on forever! Ann is so caring and loving. I loved how Sarah cared so much for Ann and her family. One of the exciting parts was when Sarah opened the quill box and a big gust of wind swept her off her feet! It was funny how Ann was so excited over a two room house! I never knew they went to the bathroom in a pot. It is sad how they had to go away on boats and some people drowned. I wonder if Ann made it and did not drown, I hope so! My favourite part is when Sarah poked the solder with the poker, it was funny! The point is that your book is the most amazing story EVER!

  12. I loved the part when Sarah found the quill box because I could picture it in my head. It was really funny when she threw the potty pot on the soldier. I learned more stuff in Winds of L'Acadie then a history book. It was kind of weird when Ann's mom took out the knife to save Ann and Sarah. When our teacher was reading it felt like it came to life. The happy ending was really nice!!! Sarah was good at saving people like Jean Paul when he drowned.I think you should make another book about the Inuit culture! I wonder how many books you have written?

  13. I love this book! When Luke dressed up as a girl I was really worried if he would get caught by the solders. I really hope Lois Donavon will make part 2. My class is learning about the Acadians and it is really cool to learn about. I wonder how Lois Donavon got her idea. She should make a native time travel book. Because we could learn about them and I bet it will be cool if she did do it. Time travel is really not real but its fun to listen to. I was sad when Sarah had to leave her home. I did not know about the Acadians before Mrs. Belanger read the book to us. I wonder why the soldiers wanted their land. It was so sad and it was sad when the soldiers tricked the men. This book is AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  14. The most exciting part of Winds of L'Acadie was the time travelling. Those nasty red jackets were jerks. They really didn't know who they were messing with. It is good that Sarah and Luke made it back - I wonder how it was the same back in their time because they had altered the past. I wanted Mrs. Belanger to read the book 24/7 because it is the best book that I have ever read in my whole life!

  15. I love this book Winds of L'Acadie. My favourite part was when Luke dressed up as a girl and Sarah laughed at him! It was so funny when they threw the chamber pot at the soldiers. When they were on Luke's boat - it was neat that it was named after a little horse, Sarah hit her head when the waves hit the boat. She went flying in the air and hit her head and everything went black. I liked this book!

  16. I love your amazing book! I wish that it could go on forever! My favourite part was when Sarah opened the quill box for the first time. I thought that it was funny when Luke dressed up as a girl. It was mean of the soldiers to trick the boys to go into the church! I felt sad for the boys because it wasn't right for the soldiers to do that. I wish you could make another time travel book. I learned a lot about the French Acadians from your book. I thought that your book was amazing! Thank you for writing it.

  22. This book was awesome!!!!!! It was so funny when Luke dressed like a girl and when Sarah poked the solder in the leg. I wished that soon you could make a part 2 . It was weird when Sarah opened the quill box and then a gust of wind took her back in time. At the end I though that Sarah and Luke would get married. It was sad when the soldiers locked the boys in the church because they got split up from their families. This was a cool book to listen to because we didn't know what was going to happen next.

  23. Winds of L'Acadie was amazing! My favourite part was when Sarah was at the dyke holding a box. It was sad when the family's got separated. I worried that Ann and Francois would not find each other. It was funny when Ann threw the pee pot on the soldiers. I wish that I could see the church that the men got tricked in. My teacher was there and she said that it was really neat!

  24. I really liked your book because it gave me facts that really happen in L'Acadie. It was really funny when Ann threw the bucket of poo and pee at one solider.I really liked the part when Ann's mom took the knife up like if she was going to fight with the soldiers. I wish that the soldiers didn't have to take the men away. It made me sad!
